Tooth extraction is something we always try to avoid. However, when a tooth needs removal, having it done in a relaxing comfortable environment where you can feel calm and secure is important. You will appreciate the excellent care you will receive at the dental office of Tamara S. Osina. Wisdom tooth extractions are among the comprehensive dental services we offer in addition to other types of extractions when a tooth cannot be saved by root canal therapy or crowning.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
The last teeth to erupt in the mouth are the ones furthest back in the mouth. They usually make their appearance in the late teens or early twenties. Wisdom teeth are notorious for growing in irregularly. Wisdom tooth extractions are commonly done due to the fact that they generally cause more problems than any other teeth. It is not unusual for a wisdom tooth to grow sideways or partially under a neighboring tooth. Wisdom teeth removal is often necessary to alleviate pain caused by the teeth pushing up against other teeth or pressing on a nerve. When a wisdom tooth is impacted or coming in at an angle, it may only partially erupt or be uneven.
Dr. Osina provides wisdom teeth removal in a caring and relaxing environment offering you the level of sedation you need to make the procedure comfortable. Wisdom tooth extractions can be done in one visit removing each wisdom tooth or they can be done one at a time as needed.
What to Expect After Wisdom Tooth Extraction
When sedation is used for wisdom tooth extractions you will need to be driven home by a friend or family member. It is important to rest after oral surgery. Do not be alarmed by bleeding at the extraction site. This is normal. Gauze will be applied after the surgery, and you will be given instructions on the follow-up care needed, once you arrive home.
Medication will be offered to help with any post-surgery discomfort. Ice packs can also help with pain and swelling. Dr. Osina may also give you a cleaning solution to help keep the extraction site clean. Do not use a straw after oral surgery, as this could slow the clotting process. Smoking is also highly discouraged.
Fort Bend County and Southwest Harris County residents are encouraged to visit Dr. Osina for all their dental needs including wisdom teeth removal
